This slide presentation outlines information on working with the media to turn bad press into good press. Topics discussed include: create news hook by putting event incontext;control the message;respond quickly;provide writtenmaterial; and,learn localdeadlines. A case study is presented of how two Gwinnet County, Georgia, agencies (the Department of Public Utilities and the Fire Department) handled two separate incidents, a November 10, 2003 72-inch pipeline installation, and a December 17, 2003 trench collapse, one with positive media coverage and one with negative coverage.
